Maternal Services Center
In 2006 Adventist HealthCare announced a new partnership with Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care, a federally qualified comprehensive health center based in Washington, DC. The collaboration, one of the efforts of Washington Adventist Hospital’s Vision for Expanded Access, was established in order to create a primary care center to provide health care services for local families.
Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care works to build better futures for local residents through programs that deliver health care, education and social services, regardless of their ability to pay. It demonstrates how improved access to prenatal and pediatric care, coupled with sensitivity to culture and family, lead to healthy mothers, healthy children and healthy families.
In addition, the Center’s numerous programs provide a dynamic child development curriculum, intensive home visits for vulnerable families, case management for teen pregnancy prevention and planning, educational training to prevent school dropout, employment referral and placement, and HIV testing and prevention.
Both organizations are currently finalizing plans for the new primary care center, including its location. Additional information will be announced once plans are finalized. The center is expected to open in the spring of 2007.
Maternal Partnerships Program
Adventist HealthCare expanded its prenatal services in 2006 by partnering with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services in its Maternal Partnerships Program, a referral program that collaborates with hospitals to provide obstetric and gynecologic services for uninsured women in Montgomery County.
The program prepares low-income and uninsured expectant mothers for childbirth and provides health care services for mothers and infants during pregnancy and following birth. Prenatal care services include routine laboratory tests, prenatal classes, nutrition counseling and a dental screening by a dental hygienist, if referred.
This year Adventist HealthCare will serve 1200 women in two clinics – one on the Washington Adventist Hospital campus and the other near the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital campus in upper Montgomery County.
MobileMed
Adventist HealthCare partners with Mobile Medical Care, also known as MobileMed, to improve access to primary health care services for patients throughout Montgomery County. The partnership allows the operation of a mobile medical health care vehicle along with lab and diagnostic services at Adventist HealthCare’s two hospitals in Montgomery County—Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and Washington Adventist Hospital.
MobileMed provides primary and preventive health care in mobile medical vehicles and community health centers to the uninsured, low income, working poor, and homeless in Montgomery County.
The new mobile medical vehicle, MobileMed’s third, is staffed by volunteers and provides health care services to patients regardless of their ability to pay at locations throughout Montgomery County.
Health & Wellness
Our Health & Wellness program provides health education classes, screening events, support groups, and special programs and events that are dedicated to promoting physical, emotional and spiritual health and healing to our community.
Numerous outreach efforts are dedicated to our goals for reducing health care costs for individuals and businesses, offering a broad range of community health education programs, and providing prevention programs that target populations such as children, the elderly, women, minorities and men.
