Shady Grove Adventist Hospital’s Bariatric Surgery program was just named as a Center of Excellence by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS). This designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric surgery.

This program was created to recognize those bariatric surgery centers that performed well and continued to improve the quality and safety of the care provided, during a time in which the number of procedures performed in the United States between 1998 and 2002 quadrupled.

The Center of Excellence designation was earned by undergoing many site inspections, in which the surgical processes were closely examined and health outcomes were collected.
