Radiation Oncology

Radiation Oncology is an integral contributor to the overall care of 60-65% of patients with cancer throughout their continuum of care. Shady Grove Adventist Hospital has, for many years, been a participant in the delivery of stellar radiation oncology services, through the Maryland Regional Cancer Care system. This year, Shady Grove determined that it could better serve its community through a singular focus on radiation oncology at the same Rockville site. The Center is now known as Shady Grove Adventist Radiation Oncology Center and is still located at 40 West Gude Drive in Rockville, Maryland. We are excited to be able to be more directly involved in the delivery of this critical service.

Radiation Oncology Services

Shady Grove Adventist Radiation Oncology Center is accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Only 15 percent of centers are ACR accredited. Treatments offered at our state-of-the-art facility include:

• Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), a state-of-the-art cancer treatment methodology that allows for the delivery of high doses of radiation directly to the cancer cells in a targeted manner. This in turn, optimizes the precision with which the radiotherapy is administered, delivering higher doses to the cancer cells while sparing the surrounding healthy tissues.
• Prostate Seed Implants , in which tiny radioactive seeds are placed in the prostate gland. This one-time procedure is done an outpatient basis, is painless, and delivers high doses of radiation directly to the area of the tumor, with minimal side effects.

From the Washington, D.C. area take 270 North toward Frederick. Take Shady Grove Road exit (Exit 8), and follow Redland Road. Make a right onto Route 355 (Frederick Road). Make a right onto W. Gude Drive, then make first left into the business park. Turn right, into the second parking lot.
