Detect Heart Disease

New Technology Can Detect Heart Disease Before a Heart Attack Occurs

Physicians at Washington Adventist Hospital now have the ability to detect heart disease in less than 15 minutes with the VCT (Volume Computed Tomography) Scanner. This non-invasive technology can capture up to 200 images of the entire heart in as little as 5 heartbeats. It’s fast, easy and comfortable for patients and provides radiologists and physicians with crystal clear 3-D images of the heart and arteries.

Another advance in imaging technology is CT Angiography or Computer Tomography Angiography (CTA). This procedure has virtually no risk and provides an alternative to a more invasive catheter angiography where a catheter is placed in a large artery.

“Instead of spending eight hours in the hospital and one hour in the procedure room, most patients will now be in the hospital for just one hour and in the CT room for only 15 minutes,” said Bruce Rubin, MD, chairman of the Radiology Department.

Thanks to this new technology, radiologists are now able to process and interpret images to precisely identify lesions, blockages and detect heart disease—before a heart attack occurs.

“Anyone who wants to know if they have early and completely treatable coronary artery disease can have a coronary CTA and get an answer within a day,” says Dr. Rubin.

To find out more or to schedule a coronary CTA, talk with your doctor or call 301-891-5139.
