Hospitalist FAQs for Physicians

How do I refer patients to the hospitalists?

You can reach the on-call hospitalist by calling 1-877-844-6296 and they will be happy to take care of your patient.

During the office hours, you can also refer the patients by calling 301-891-6351 and talking to one of our physicians. You can fax patient information at 301-891-5367.

Which consultants will see my patients?

Our hospitalist team follows the on-call schedule for the consultants. But if you have a preference for a certain group then we will call them. You can specify your list of consultants at the time of admission or fax your list of consultants to the hospitalist office at 301-891-5367.

What is the hospitalist consult service?

The hospitalist consult service is available to all the physicians if they have any medical management related questions. This consult service is also available for the medical clearance of the surgical patients.

Can I do direct admissions to the hospitalists team?

Yes, you can do direct admissions to the hospital using the hospitalist service thus bypassing the ED and reducing patient inconvenience. This service is for the stable patients only. The unstable patients still need to go the ED for the initial workup. Please talk to the hospitalist on call for the admission.

How do I get the discharge notification & follow up information?

Hospitalists are encouraged to communicate with the primary care physicians upon admission and discharge and to send the discharge summaries as soon as the patients are discharged.

The rest of the medical records are completed, signed and then sent to the primary care physician from the medical records department upon the patient’s discharge.
