Washington Adventist Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Program Recognized

Takoma Park, MD - Washington Adventist Hospital has been awarded re-certification for its Cardiac Rehabilitation Program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). Certification, or re-certification, recognizes programs that have been rigorously reviewed by a national board and found to meet essential requirements for operating a quality program.

Washington Adventist Hospital, a leading regional center for cardiology, has offered cardiac rehabilitation care for more than 13 years. The hospital's cardiac rehabilitation program was among the first group of programs to be awarded program certification three years ago, and is now among the first group of programs to be re-certified through the AACVPR.

Cardiac rehabilitation programs are designed to limit the effects of cardiac disease, reduce the risk for sudden death or relapse, stabilize or improve a cardiac patient's condition and enhance their quality of life. As part of the program, clinical professionals work with patients to develop a program of exercise and stress reduction, and provide counseling on nutrition and other areas to help improve the patient's health.

"We are very pleased to receive this recognition of the cardiac rehabilitation services we provide for the community," said Ken Bauer, President of Washington Adventist Hospital. "Cardiac rehabilitation is a vital part of operating a well-rounded, recognized center of excellence for cardiology care."

The AACVPR is a national, multi-disciplinary association dedicated to the improvement of clinical practice and advancement of education for cardiovascular rehabilitation professionals and the patients they serve.

Located close to the Capital Beltway in Takoma Park, Washington Adventist Hospital offers an array of health care services including emergency medical care, obstetrics, radiation oncology, psychiatric services and inpatient and outpatient surgery, among other services. The hospital has been a leading center for cardiac surgery as well as cardiology care and research for more than 25 years.
