Adventist Healthcare Recognized for Support of Workforce Initiatives

Rockville, MD - Individuals within Adventist HealthCare were recognized for their work and accomplishments in supporting workforce initiatives at a special awards program. The breakfast program was sponsored by the Montgomery County Workforce Investment Board, a business-led advisory group for the county’s Department of Economic Development.

At the program, Bill Robertson, President & CEO of Adventist HealthCare, received the Leadership Award from the Workforce Investment Board. Bill, who plays a key role in the State of Maryland’s workforce development initiatives, was “recognized for his superior leadership, drive and commitment as chairperson of the Maryland Healthcare Workforce Initiative. As a result of Mr. Robertson’s leadership, the workforce system is training, recruiting and working more successfully in establishing solid careers for job seekers and meeting the healthcare community’s workforce needs.”

In addition, Valicia Gordon, a Patient Registrar at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, was honored with the Participant of the Year Award. Valicia was honored by the Workforce Investment Board for “overcoming the odds. Her determination, commitment and ‘can-do’ attitude have been the driving force behind Valicia’s success.”

A determined, single mother of three daughters, ranging in ages from 18 years old to 17 months, Valicia has worked as a Patient Registrar at Shady Grove since January 2004. She hopes to begin taking classes soon at Montgomery College for certification as a surgical tech.

The mission of the Montgomery County Workforce Investment Board is to ensure that Montgomery County has a well-prepared, educated, trained and adaptable workforce to meet the current and future needs of businesses in Montgomery County.
