Adventist HealthCare Enters Into Partnership with MobileMed to Expand Access to Primary Health Care Services

Funding to expand primary care access to residents throughout Montgomery County

Rockville, MDAdventist HealthCare has partnered with Mobile Medical Care (MobileMed) and will contribute nearly $1 million to improve access to primary health care services for patients throughout Montgomery County, Md. The donation, which will be over a three-year period, includes funding to operate a mobile medical health care vehicle along with lab and diagnostic services at Adventist HealthCare’s two hospitals in Montgomery County—Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and Washington Adventist Hospital.

With nearly a century of service in Montgomery County, Adventist HealthCare continues to be committed to proactively providing improved health access in the communities it serves. In 2005, Washington Adventist Hospital formed a relationship with MobileMed and CASA de Maryland, an immigrant advocacy organization, to provide medical services at the CASA of Maryland location on University Boulevard in Silver Spring’s Long Branch community. Washington Adventist Hospital, which underwrites the cost for this health care service, recently extended the program.

MobileMed provides primary and preventive health care to the uninsured, low income, working poor, and homeless in Montgomery County, Md. in mobile medical vehicles and community health centers. The new mobile medical vehicle, MobileMed’s third, will be staffed by volunteers who will begin treating patients in July 2006.

The new mobile medical vehicle will provide health care services to patients regardless of their ability to pay at locations throughout Montgomery County. The sites where services will be provided are currently being identified.

“At Adventist HealthCare, our mission is to deliver excellent health care through a ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing. This partnership with MobileMed is part of our commitment to work collaboratively with other community organizations to improve access and strengthen the region’s health care safety net,” said William G. “Bill” Robertson, President and CEO of Adventist HealthCare. “The new MobileMed vehicle will help meet the health care needs of patients in traditionally underserved communities.”

“The mobile medical vehicle will be located several days a week at locations in lower and eastern Montgomery County, areas served by Washington Adventist Hospital,” said hospital President Jere Stocks. “This is part of our effort to reach beyond the walls of the hospital and into the community to ensure people have access to the care they need.”

“As the upcounty community grows, the health care needs of the community we serve also have grown,” said Deborah A. Yancer, President of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. “We’re very pleased to partner with MobileMed to extend access to primary care at various community locations in upper Montgomery County.”

"We applaud Adventist HealthCare for its willingness to expand the partnership that has enriched the lives of so many of our community's most vulnerable residents,” said Robert Spector, Executive Director of Mobile Medical Care. “This new initiative ensures that our joint commitment to serve those most in need will continue and be expanded in the coming years."
