Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Named Excellent Place to Work for Fourth Consecutive Year

Rockville, MD - Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is pleased to announce that it has received the 2006 ‘Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval' from the National Work~Life Alliance. This is the fourth consecutive year that Shady Grove has received this award, which recognizes visionary employers that build workplaces where employees are able to achieve success in all aspects of their professional and personal lives while enhancing the business bottom-line. Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is one of only 48 employers in Maryland to receive the ‘Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval' in 2006.

We are constantly looking for ways to help our employees achieve a healthy balance between work and life, in fact, this is part of our organization's ongoing strategic plan. Applicants for the ‘Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval' are assessed in several categories including inclusive and flexible corporate culture and management practices; family and employee friendly policies and programs; strong health and wellness initiatives; growth and learning opportunities; and commitment to corporate, social and civic responsibility .

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, which is part of Adventist HealthCare, one of the largest employers in Montgomery County, provides several programs to its employees to help them balance work and life, including:

  • A "Meals to Go" program, which provides take-out meals for employees;
  • Flexible work schedules;
  • Numerous award programs to recognize outstanding employees and their exceptional work;
  • A generous Personal Time Off (PTO) policy;
  • An employee referral program;
  • On-site health screenings;
  • A subsidized cafeteria; and
  • Staff events throughout the year, including a pancake breakfast, ice cream social and holiday celebrations.

In addition, Shady Grove Adventist Hospital recently added a new service for its employees-onsite concierge service provided by Best Upon Request. The free services, which is offered by onsite staff, includes personal and grocery shopping; facilitating car repair appointments including warranty work, oil changes, and vehicle washing; errand running within a 20 mile radius of the hospital; dry cleaning pick up and drop off; information research for entertainment ticket availability, current mortgage rates and travel planning; and postal services.

"We recognize that in today's world, it can be very challenging to balance all of the responsibilities that come with working and having a family. Shady Grove's new concierge service was implemented to help our employees take care of their life responsibilities so that they have more time for their families and the activities that they enjoy when the are not at work," notes Yancer.

The National Work Life Alliance-a nonprofit organization committed to empowering employers around the country to create and become recognized as an excellent place to work-awarded the 2006 ‘Workplace Seal of Excellence' to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and 47 Maryland employers on May 19, 2006 at the North Bethesda Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.
