Two Adventist HealthCare Facilities Receive Workplace Excellence Awards

Rockville, MD -Two Adventist HealthCare facilities - Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital of Maryland - have received the Workplace Excellence Award from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence.  Shady Grove Adventist Hospital also received the Health & Wellness Trailblazer Award.  These awards recognize visionary employers that are paving the way to a workplace where men and women are able to experience professional fulfillment and success and personal wellness not only at work, but also at home and within the community.  This is the fifth year in a row that Shady Grove Adventist Hospital has received the Workplace Excellence Award and the first year that the hospital has received the Trailblazer Award.  Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital of Maryland received the Workplace Excellence Award this year for the first time.

Applicants for the two awards were required to complete a comprehensive and rigorous assessment process led by an Independent Review Panel.  The applicants were assessed in several categories including their commitment to supportive corporate culture and management practices; family and employee friendly policies and practices; strong employee health and wellness initiatives; comprehensive growth and learning opportunities; and demonstration to corporate social responsibility and employee volunteerism.

Both Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital of Maryland offer several programs to help employees maintain a work/life balance as well as a healthy lifestyle.  At Shady Grove, employee programs include a “Meals to Go” program, which provides take-out meals for employees; flexible work schedules; numerous award programs to recognize outstanding employees and their exceptional work; on-site health screenings; free flu shots, discounted or free health-related classes and on-site employee massages.  Programs offered by Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital of Maryland include loan reimbursement for employees and several recognition/award programs. 

The Alliance for Workplace Excellence, a nonprofit organization that provides a portfolio of services that allow employees to build excellent places to work, will present the 2007 Workplace Excellence Awards as well as the Health and Wellness Trailblazer Awards to 60 businesses on June 14, 2007 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center. 

Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital of Maryland is the first and only acute rehabilitation hospital in Montgomery County. It offers comprehensive rehabilitation programs for traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, strokes, amputations, orthopedic injuries and surgeries, sportsrelated injuries, work-related injuries, cardiopulmonary conditions and neurological disorders.  Adventist Rehab has two locations: a freestanding 55-bed hospital next to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, and a 22-bed hospital located on the fifth floor of Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park. Adventist Rehab also operates an outpatient department at the hospital in Rockville and an outpatient center in Silver Spring.

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, is a not-for-profit, acute care facility with 275 licensed beds that is located in Rockville, Maryland.  Shady Grove is committed to delivering excellent health care through a ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.  The hospital offers a broad range of health services and is recognized for excellence in emergency care; high-risk obstetrical and neonatal care; cardiac and vascular interventional care; as well as a broad range of surgical specialties.  Also, Shady Grove Adventist Hospital for Children, which is located within Shady Grove Adventist Hospital encompasses a broad range of specialized services for children,  including the first Pediatric Emergency Department in Montgomery County and the only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in the county.  The Shady Grove Adventist Emergency Center in Germantown opened in 2006 and is providing increased access to emergency medical care for upcounty residents.
