LifeWork Strategies - Adventist HealthCare Forms Partnership to Help Employers Improve Their Employees’ Health and Curb Rising Health Care Costs

Rockville, Md. -With medical costs increasing on average between eight and 12 percent each year, employers are struggling to meet employee demands for affordable, quality health-care coverage. Adventist HealthCare has partnered with a leading health-care technology company to form LifeWork Strategies, which will provide employers in the Mid-Atlantic region a range of cost-effective services designed to improve existing health plans and their employees’ health.

Adventist HealthCare, a Rockville-based, non-profit health-care system, and InforMed, an Annapolis-based health-care technology company that specializes in the clinical deployment of medical claims information, have formed LifeWork Strategies, to help businesses coordinate programs in health and wellness, employee advocacy and assistance, and medical management.

“The primary difference between LifeWork Strategies and other health-management services is that our focus is on keeping employees well with strategies for both living and working healthy,” said Robert Trachman, Executive Director of LifeWork Strategies. “We are also able to offer and coordinate a wider range of services for less through the partnership of Adventist HealthCare and InforMed.”

LifeWork Strategies is modeled after Adventist HealthCare’s integrated medical management plan, which was fully implemented in 2004. Over a three-year span the organization, which provides coverage for 7,400 members and dependents, has averaged a cost increase of 2.8% which is below the industry trend of 11%.

Through LifeWork Strategies a business receives a comprehensive claims analysis from InforMed. The analysis is used to tailor an outreach plan that meets the health needs of the employee population. The business can then connect to Adventist HealthCare’s existing resources, which include community health and wellness programs, work/life seminars, work site screenings and health literature, to implement its plan.

For employees already immersed in the health care system, LifeWork Strategies offers an employee assistance and advocacy program. The program assigns a personal care nurse to individuals seeking assistance in understanding disease management, identifying treatment options, and comparing treatment costs and effectiveness. The personal care nurse also coaches individuals in developing and maintaining a health improvement plan to reduce personal health risks. In complex medical cases, the personal care nurse follows the individual’s care and advocates on their behalf, working closely with their personal physician and care givers.

“Savings follow when members receive the support and coaching they need to achieve and maintain health,” said William G. “Bill” Robertson, Adventist HealthCare President and Chief Executive Officer. “We believe that LifeWork Strategies can work to the benefit of both employers and employees.”

Adventist HealthCare, an integrated health care delivery organization based in Rockville, Maryland, is one of the largest employers in the state of Maryland.  The mission of Adventist HealthCare is to demonstrate God’s care by improving the health of people and communities through a ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing. Adventist HealthCare includes Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Washington Adventist Hospital, Adventist Behavioral Health Services, Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital of Maryland, Adventist Senior Living Services, Hackettstown Regional Medical Center, Adventist Home Health Services, the Reginald S. Lourie Center for Infants and Young Children, and LifeWork Strategies.
