Adventist HealthCare Names Three New Members to Board of Trustees

Rockville, Md . - Adventist HealthCare in Rockville is pleased to announce the appointment of three new members to the organization’s Board of Trustees: Ruth Ellen Bulger, M.A., Ph.D.; Mark E. Griffin, CPA; and Jeffrey J. Pargament, Esq.

Dr. Bulger, of Potomac, is professor emeritus of the Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Genetics, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda . She had previously been in the position for 10 years. Dr. Bulger’s achievements span almost 50 years of involvement in biomedical and health science research through executive leadership and teaching positions, publications, national and international lectures and service in community and professional organizations. Her 160 scientific publications include research articles, chapters and books, most recently on the responsible conduct of research including the area of the ethical inclusion of human research volunteers in research studies.

Dr. Bulger has earned numerous recognitions and awards in her field and currently teaches an ethics course as a professorial lecturer in anatomy at George Washington University School of Medicine. She undertook graduate study in an ethics program at Rice University and attended Wesley Theological Seminary. Dr. Bulger earned a B.A. from Vassar College, an M.A. from Radcliffe College and a Ph. D. at the University of Washington.

Mr. Griffin, of Silver Spring, is managing owner for Shenandoah Place, an assisted-living facility in New Market, Va.  In addition, he provided technical expertise and leadership on a major, multi-year project for Marriott International, where he was previously a Vice President.  In that position, he led a group of 35 associates in the International Lodging area of Marriott’s Global Finance group.  His responsibilities included managing statutory audits of non-U.S. subsidiaries and providing accounting and reporting support for complex, multi-national purchase and sale transactions.  Additionally, Griffin has held positions at Panoramic Communications, Disclosure and Ernst & Young. He graduated from Columbia Union College with a B.S. in Accounting and is a Certified Public Accountant.

Mr. Pargament, of Potomac, formed Pargament & Hallowell, PLLC, in 2006, and has represented national and local clients for more than 20 years on matters covering the spectrum of labor and employment law. He has been an adjunct professor for Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and frequently lectures to employers, business groups and clients on a variety of labor and employment law subjects. In addition, he is a Trustee and Secretary of the Maryland Hospital Association. He has a B.S. from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and a J.D. from the George Washington University National Law Center.

The three members will each serve a three-year term and be eligible for reappointment to a second three-year term in 2011.
