Adventist HealthCare Names Marta Brito Pèrez to Board of Trustees

Adventist HealthCare is pleased to announce the appointment of Marta Brito Pèrez of Rockville to a three-year term with the organization's Board of Trustees.

Pèrez is currently Vice President, Human Resources North America and Global Marketing, with Delaware-based AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals, LP, a position she has held since January 2008. In this role, she leads the international company's initiatives to enhance employee engagement and ensure a pipeline for a skilled and talented workforce.

She previously served as the Chief Human Capital Officer with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in Washington, D.C. Appointed by then-President George W. Bush, Pèrez directed all aspects of human resources management for the federal government's third largest cabinet-level agency. Prior to her work with the DHS, Pèrez served as the Associate Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, in Washington, D.C., leading the design and implementation of standards for the federal government's Strategic Human Capital Management Presidential initiative. The standards help to evaluate the government's capacity to strategically manage its 1.8 million employees.

Pèrez has also served as human resources director for the Montgomery County Government in Rockville, Md., and as training manager with the non-profit International Association of Chiefs of Police in Arlington, Va.

"Marta is a creative thinker and leader with the ability to conceptualize strategy and to mobilize organizations in order to achieve performance objectives," said William G. "Bill" Robertson, President and CEO of Rockville-based Adventist HealthCare. "We are fortunate to have the opportunity to utilize her expertise in guiding our organization to foster a culture of high performance, build an engaged workforce and implement innovative development strategies for our workforce."

Pèrez has been recognized with the Distinguished Public Service Award by the U.S. Coast Guard and named by Hispanic Business as one of the 2008 Top 20 Elite Women in the United States. She has a Master of Science degree in Organization Development and Human Resources from The Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Arts in criminology from the University of Maryland. She is also an alumna of the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government.
