Adventist Behavioral Health Opens Partial Hospital Hospitalization Program for Adults

Rockville, MD –Adventist Behavioral Health today announced the opening of its adult Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at its Rockville campus. The adult PHP is designed to offer therapeutic services to mentally ill individuals on an outpatient basis while they remain in the community. The program offers a Mood Disorders track for individuals who suffer from disorders such as bipolar disorder and a Transitional Youth track for young adults 18 to 25 years who are transitioning from acute or residential mental health care.

According to Mental Health America, formerly the Mental Health Association, approximately 20 percent of the U.S. population reports at least one depressive symptom in a given month. Adventist Behavioral Health’s PHP, with its Mood Disorders track, will provide critical intervention for these individuals in an environment that is appropriate to their clinical needs.

Many young adults who spend considerable time in an acute or residential treatment environment transition from treatment without the necessary skills to successfully sustain themselves in the community and achieve their educational goals. The Transitional Youth track will provide therapeutic services in addition to life skills-building and coaching to help young adults function independently after discharge.

“The adult PHP is part of Adventist Behavioral Health’s efforts to expand its outpatient services and offer programs that meet various levels of treatment needs,” said Sako Maki, President, Adventist Behavioral Health. “The benefit of this program is that allows mentally ill individuals to receive much-need therapy and care while remaining in their communities.”
