Adventist HealthCare Names Two New Board of Trustees Members

Rockville, Md.Adventist HealthCare in Rockville is honored to announce the appointment of two new board members to the organization’s Board of Trustees: Renee Battle-Brooks, a longtime Prince George’s County community leader and Bruce Robertson, a Montgomery County business leader.

Renee Battle-Brooks is an attorney in her 19th year of practice. Her first eight years were with the Public Defender’s Office for the State of Maryland. For the last 11 years, she has worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County, Md.

Ms. Battle-Brooks is also an active, award-winning community member. Her awards include Prosecutor of the Year for Prince George’s County, Maryland, 2004; Alumni of the Year Columbia Union College, 2005; and The Daily Record’s Top 100 Women of Maryland, 2010.

She has been a regular presenter for the Community Advocates for Family and Youth (CAFY), the Prince George’s Hospital Center’s Sexual Assault Center and for the Laurel City Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy.

“I am honored to serve on the board and look forward to helping move forward the mission of Adventist HealthCare," Ms. Battle-Brooks said.

Ms. Battle-Brooks attended Middle East College in Beirut, Lebanon and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Columbia Union College, now known as Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Md. Ms. Battle-Brooks earned her law degree at the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Bruce Robertson, of Rockville, is the Managing Director and Co-Head of H.I.G. BioVentures, the life science focused venture capital affiliate of H.I. G. Capital, an $8.5 billion private and equity firm. Dr. Robertson has been active in the life sciences sector for more than 20 years. Prior to joining H.I.G., he served most recently as Managing Director at Toucan Capital, an early-stage venture capital fund in Maryland, focusing on life-science investments.

Prior to Toucan, he was a general partner at GIV Venture Partners. Before Dr. Robertson started his venture capital career, he was Director of Business Development at IGEN International in Gaithersburg, Md. and had started his career as a Research Manager at W.R. Grace & Co. in Columbia, Md. He previously served on the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Governing Board from January 2005 to December 2010.

“It has been an honor serving on the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Board for the last six years,” Dr. Robertson said. “I look forward to continuing my work with this community-focused organization by serving on the Adventist HealthCare board.”

Dr. Robertson holds a BSE in Chemical Engineering and a BA in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania, a Ph.D. in Chemical/Biomedical Engineering from the University of Delaware, and an MBA with High Distinction from Harvard Business School.

“The experience and talents of these two new board members will help us focus on the future of Adventist HealthCare and our vision to provide the community with quality and compassionate health care services,” said William G. “Bill” Robertson, President and CEO of Adventist HealthCare. “I look forward to working closely with both trustees.”

The two new trustees will each serve a three-year term and be eligible for reappointment to a second three-year term in 2014. (Note: Dr. Bruce Robertson and William G. "Bill" Robertson are not related.)
