Local Employers Receive “Flu Fighter” Awards from Adventist HealthCare, LifeWork Strategies
Employers in Maryland, Virginia and D.C. demonstrate commitment to fighting flu
Rockville, MD - Adventist HealthCare and LifeWork Strategies are pleased to recognize local employersin Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia that are helping to fight the flu with the first annual “Flu Fighter” awards. The 33 winners of the 2011 awards are being recognized for their efforts to protectthe health of their employees and our community.
“We are proud to recognize these local businesses for their critical role in improving the health of ourcommunity,” said Dr. Gaurov Dayal, Chief Medical Officer for Adventist HealthCare. “Annual fluvaccinations are the best defense against the flu. Congratulations to all of this year’s Flu Fighter award winners.”
To be considered for the Flu Fighter award, employers were required to submit an application showingtheir actions to keep their employees healthy. Each employer earned points based on their responses toquestions regarding their policies and practices aimed at protecting their workforce and the communityfrom flu. All award recipients offered a flu vaccination clinic at their office, most covered the cost. Eachaward winner also provided resources, such as paid sick leave, hand-washing posters and surface cleanerin the workplace to prevent the spread of the flu. The majority of recipients also had a formal workplacepolicy on sick leave and return to work, specific to the flu and the contagious illness.
"Since we work with our clients to develop programs that promote the health and well-being of theirorganizations, it's only natural that we would be committed to doing the same for our own employees,”said Richard Silberstein, President, Silberstein Insurance Group, local winner and sponsor of the 2011 FluFighter Awards. “We're honored to be part of this group of employers who share a similar vision for ahealthy workforce.”
LifeWork Strategies will host a breakfast to recognize the winners of the 2011 Flu Fighter Award onThursday, February 9, 2012 at 9:00 a.m at the headquarters of Adventist HealthCare. As part of theprogram, Debra Illig RN, MBA, CLNC, Executive Director Quality & Patient Safety, AdventistHealthCare, will provide opening remarks and introduce Ellen Shannon PhD, RN, Medical ScienceLiaison at Sanofi Pasteur, who will address updates on influenza and prevention strategies.
