Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Appoints Members to Governing Board

Rockville, MD –Shady Grove Adventist Hospital has appointed to its Governing Board for their initial term Carolyn B. O’Conor, M.D., Stephen Lakner, M.D., Cesar E. Palacios, M.D., and David P. Shapiro, Esq. In addition, Wayne Meyer, M.D., has been re-appointed to the board.

“We are pleased to announce these members to the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Governing Board,” said Dennis Hansen, President of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. “As professionals with unique perspectives in the health-care industry, we are confident that they will help us continue to provide high-quality care to our community.”

Drs. O’Conor, Lakner and Meyer bring more than 25 years of physician experience to the board as well as experience in leadership roles on the hospital’s medical staff.

Dr. O’Conor, Medical Staff Vice President, is serving a two-year board term and currently works as a family medicine physician in Rockville. She is board certified by the American Board of Family Physicians and the Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Lakner, Past President of Medical Staff, is serving a three-year board term and works as an obstetrician gynecologist in Rockville. He holds board certifications from the National Board of Medical Examiners Certification and the Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Meyer, Medical Staff President, is serving a two-year term on the board. Dr. Meyer is a board certified internal medicine specialist and has previously served two years on the governing board.

In addition to these physicians, the latest appointments of Dr. Palacios and Mr. Shapiro bring further health-care experience and knowledge to the board.

Dr. Palacios, who is serving a three-year term, is currently the Executive Director of Proyecto Salud Clinic in Wheaton-Olney, where he manages operations for two clinics serving low-income uninsured Montgomery County adults. He has more than 15 years of development and management experience with proficiencies in design, implementation and financial monitoring of health programs.

Mr. Shapiro, who is serving a two-year term, is a life-long resident of Montgomery County with strong ties to the local health care community. He currently works with Paley Rothman, a full-service law firm in Bethesda. Through his work in health law practice, he counsels individual physicians, physician groups and surgical centers about health care business operations, regulatory compliance and the structuring of successful relationship models.
