Center for Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine at Washington Adventist Hospital Receives 2013 Center of Excellence Award

Only Wound Care Center in the Area Awarded Prestigious National Award

Takoma Park, MD – The Center for Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine at Washington Adventist Hospital has been recognized as a Center of Excellence by Healogics, Inc., the world’s leading wound care management company, making it the only wound care center in the D.C. metropolitan region within the Healogics network recognized with this national award.

“By combining best-in-practice clinical guidelines, cutting edge medical technology, and compassionate care, we are privileged to be the sole DC-Metropolitan area recipient of this prestigious award,” said Rafael Mazuz, director of The Center for Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine at Washington Adventist Hospital. “The award criteria take into account both clinical outcomes and patient experience benchmarks, making it a strong all-around indicator of the quality of care we deliver to our patients.”

The Center of Excellence distinction is awarded for having met the Center of Distinction quality standards for two consecutive years. This Center has achieved and maintained patient satisfaction rates over 92%, a healing rate over 91%, and median days to heal and other quality standards surpassing those of hundreds of other centers throughout the country.

Last year, The Center for Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine at Washington Adventist Hospital was the only wound care center in the area to receive the 2012 Center of Distinction Award for outstanding patient outcomes for twelve months or more.

“Our goal is to always provide our community with the highest-quality care possible,” said Joyce Newmyer, president of Washington Adventist Hospital. “Receiving this award for excellence, and again being the only wound care center in the area to meet such a high standard, shows our team’s unwavering commitment to our patients.”

“Many patients come to us after having wounds for months and even years,” said Itamar Simhon clinical manager of the Center for Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine at Washington Adventist Hospital. “Our multidisciplinary team of doctors and experienced wound care nurses work together to correctly diagnose the root cause of theses wounds, choose the right treatment and partner with the patient to follow their treatment plan and restore their health.”

Opened in 2011, The Center for Advanced Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine at Washington Adventist Hospital provides specialized treatment for chronic or non-healing wounds, which are defined as sores or wounds that have not significantly improved from conventional treatments. Often associated with inadequate circulation, diabetes, immobility, and other conditions, non-healing wounds lead to lower quality of life and may lead to amputations. When wounds persist, a specialized approach is required for healing.

Washington Adventist Hospital, a not-for-profit, 252-bed acute-care facility located in Takoma Park, Maryland, is part of Adventist HealthCare’s system of complete health-care services. Washington Adventist Hospital, Montgomery County’s first cardiac center, is a Cycle IV Chest Pain Center and Designated Stroke Center.
