Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center Adds Nurse Educator to Its Governing Board

Rebecca Wiseman Brings Expertise from University Role

Rockville, Md. – Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center has appointed Rebecca Wiseman, Ph.D., RN, an assistant dean at the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Nursing, to the hospital’s governing board. Wiseman will serve as a Community Board member for a three-year term, which began on Jan. 1, 2015.

“We are delighted to have Rebecca on our Governing Board,” said John Sackett, President of Shady Grove Medical Center. “We admire her passion for nursing and her commitment to healthcare education. She shares our dedication to serving the community, and we look forward to her collaboration and input.”

Wiseman brings more than 35 years of nursing experience to her role. She currently has administrative responsibility for the University of Maryland Baltimore’s undergraduate nursing program at the University of Shady Grove campus in Rockville. As assistant dean, she oversees full-time faculty members, clinical instructors and more than 200 nursing students. 

She joined the University of Maryland Baltimore in 2002. Before becoming assistant dean, she was an assistant professor of Organizational Behaviors and Adult Health, as well as director of the Governor’s Wellmobile Program.

Prior to her time at the university, Wiseman was a workplace advocacy specialist with the American Nurses Association. She also worked with numerous hospitals in the mid-Atlantic region and as an educator with several university nursing programs, including those at the University of South Florida, the University of South Carolina, Temple University and the University of Pennsylvania.

Wiseman’s writing has appeared in national nursing journals, and she has presented on healthcare and nursing education at conferences around the country.

In addition to the Shady Grove Medical Center Governing Board, Wiseman also serves on the Workforce Investment Board for the Allied Health Industry Alliance in Montgomery County, Md. She is a member of the the advisory board for the Montgomery College nursing program. She also serves on the Maryland Regional Coalition to implement the Institute of Medicine’s “Future of Nursing” recommendations, which suggest new ways for nurses to practice and enhance access to care.
