Adventist HealthCare Washington Adventist Hospital Recognized for Quality Cancer Care

Takoma Park, MDAdventist HealthCare Washington Adventist Hospital has been granted a three-year approval with commendation in four areas by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) Commission on Cancer (CoC). This prestigious designation exemplifies the continued high-quality care provided through the Washington Adventist Hospital cancer program. This is the third time that the hospital has obtained this commendation.

To receive this distinction, Washington Adventist Hospital participated in a thorough evaluation process and performance review. During the review, the hospital team demonstrated compliance with multiple standards that represent the broad scope of the cancer program.

“We are pleased to again receive this designation for the comprehensive, compassionate care our exceptional team provides to cancer patients,” said Erik Wangsness, president of Washington Adventist Hospital. “This prestigious designation represents our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality cancer care to our community.”

Approval by the CoC is nationally recognized by organizations such as The Joint Commission, American Cancer Society, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the National Quality Forum and the National Cancer Institute as having established performance measures for the provision of cancer care.

“I am grateful to the dedicated physicians and staff on our cancer team at Washington Adventist Hospital for their commitment to providing this level of exceptional care,” said Mary Greenberg, executive director of service lines for Adventist HealthCare. “This designation represents our focused work in the areas of Program Management, Clinical Services, Continuum of Care, Patient Outcomes and Data Quality.”

More than 70 percent of all newly diagnosed cancer patients are treated in the more than 1,500 CoC-accredited cancer programs nationwide. Washington Adventist Hospital has been approved as a Community Cancer Program for the past six years.

Adventist HealthCare Washington Adventist Hospital, a not-for-profit, 232-bed acute-care facility located in Takoma Park, Maryland, is part of Adventist HealthCare’s system of complete health-care services.
