Approximately 35 miles to the east is the beautiful Chesapeake Bay and Maryland's historic capital city of Annapolis, "the sailing capital of America." Two hours further east are the sparkling white sand beaches of the Atlantic Ocean.

Air travel convenience is provided by three easily accessible major airports. Reagan National and Dulles International airports are located in Northern Virginia; Baltimore-Washington International Airport is located between Washington and Baltimore, Maryland.

The area is surrounded by higher education facilities including the University of Maryland School of Nursing (rated as one of the "Top Ten Nursing Schools in America" by Newsweek Magazine). The school of nursing has a satellite campus in Montgomery County near Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. Likewise, Washington Adventist College, located next to Washington Adventist Hospital, is a four-year accredited nursing college operating under the auspices of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
