Our Mission

In September 2005, the Board of Trustees of Adventist HealthCare approved a Vision for Expanded Access for Washington Adventist Hospital.  This vision includes seven initiatives designed to improve access to care for all in the communities served by Washington Adventist Hospital, along with improved hospital facilities and services.

One key element of the Vision for Expanded Access was a call to convene a Blue Ribbon Panel of community leaders to develop a locally-driven approach in order to address and eliminate health disparities in all the communities served by Adventist HealthCare.

After extensive deliberations and discussions, the panel recommended the formation of the Adventist HealthCare Center on Health Disparities with three areas of focus: increased services for underserved populations; a research program to identify and promote best practices; and an education initiative to improve the ability of caregivers to provide quality care to those populations.

Our Mission

The mission of the Center on Health Disparities is to reduce and eliminate disparities in health status, and healthcare access, treatment, quality and outcomes throughout the communities served by Adventist HealthCare.

Cultural Competence

As the diversity of our community continues to change, providing health care that is culturally sensitive goes to the heart of our mission as an organization.
