Center for Health Equity and Wellness

The Center for Health Equity and Wellness is an important extension of Adventist HealthCare's mission to demonstrate God’s care by improving the health of people and communities through a ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.

It aims to improve the health of communities served by Adventist HealthCare by raising awareness of community health needs and local disparities, improving access to culturally appropriate care, and providing community wellness outreach and education. A team of health educators, clinical care coordinators, nurses, patient navigators, and public health researchers and interns work together to ensure the delivery of population-based care and promote health equity in the communities we serve.

Areas of Focus

Health Programs Delivery

Health educators and clinical staff with expertise in cancer outreach, cardiovascular care, diabetes self-management, smoking cessation, and maternal/child health provide disease prevention, health promotion, and wellness education for inpatient and outpatient populations.

Community Health and Outreach

Community health education coordinators work to improve the health and experience of the populations served by Adventist HealthCare by making quality health care and services accessible to people in our community through culturally and linguistically competent practices, policies, providers, and staff. Health educators promote positive health behaviors and disease prevention through community outreach, health screenings and education, while developing and strengthening relationships with our community partners.

Research and Education

Part of the Center’s mission is to enhance knowledge, dissemination, and implementation of best practices key to eliminating health and healthcare disparities. Public health science researchers collaborate with partners within Adventist HealthCare and in the community to research local health disparities and outcomes, build cross-cultural awareness and communication skills among health care professionals and staff, and produce annual reports on health care equity and community health needs to inform hospital quality improvement.
