Dr. Mark Turco's Healthy Commuter Tips
  • Roll up car windows. Use air conditioning when necessary to minimize your exposure to exhaust fumes and air pollution, which has been shown to reduce blood flow to the heart, increasing the risk of cardiovascular problems, including heart attacks and arrhythmias.
  • Relieve stress to lower your heart rate and blood pressure. Listen to soothing music in the car. Exercise regularly.
  • Exercise is essential to good cardiovascular health but avoid exercising in or near heavy traffic, whenever possible. If you are exercising outside, try to do it when pollution and traffic are at their lowest.
