Mental Health Services: Patients, Therapies & Locations

Adventist HealthCare Behavioral Health & Wellness Services's inpatient treatment programs have been designed to provide therapy and treatment for the following age groups:

Children

Our inpatient program for children 8 to 12 years old provides stabilization for acute symptoms that require around-the-clock supervision in a safe, therapeutic and child-friendly environment. Our units are staffed by a multidisciplinary team including highly-skilled child and adolescent psychiatrists affiliated with Georgetown University Hospital, psychiatric nurses, psychotherapists and expressive therapists.

Our young patients participate in daily group therapy and expressive therapy such as art, movement and music. Adventist HealthCare Behavioral Health & Wellness Services’s treatment team also facilitates activities designed to increase the child's awareness of the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

The goal of the program is to foster the child's ability to successfully return home and to school. Prior to discharge, the treatment team will work in collaboration with outpatient mental health providers to ensure seamless continuity of care during the transition to the child's home.

Our program also teaches patients coping and communication strategies to function more effectively at home and in school.

Family members are encouraged to play an active role in their child’s treatment process by participating in family meetings and facilitating contact with their child’s home, school and outside therapists, when appropriate.

Adolescent patients also participate in age-appropriate expressive therapy activities and are given daily access to the facility’s gymnasium and outdoor courtyard.
