Interpreter and Hearing Impaired Services
We want to welcome you to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and we would like your experience with our hospital to be as pleasant as possible. You are able to receive prompt communication services by:
- Requesting an interpreter
- Utilizing a TDD device
- Utilizing a language line
Our goal is to provide efficient communication with patients who are hearing-impaired or unable to speak English, in order to facilitate their understanding of information related to their medical condition or hospital visit.
No person will be denied equal access to services based on his or her ability to communicate or speak English. Our Cultural Diversity Liaison may provide interpreter services at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital by using the Language Line, which is accessible 24 hours per day, and by TDD/TTY for hearing or speech-impaired patients. An adult family member may interpret if requested to do so by the patient. Any cost incurred through the use of these services will be paid by the hospital. The nurse or other health care provider in the department or unit where the patient is located is responsible for determining and requesting appropriate interpreter services.
Please know that if you are experiencing an emergency condition, your care will not be delayed. The hospital staff will assist you in communicating as effectively as possible.
Please do not hesitate to ask your nurse about our services to which you are entitled.
We hope you enjoy your meals. In order to keep you satisfied, we encourage you to choose foods you like from our menus based upon the diet your physician has ordered. In the event that you do not wish to choose any of the selections provided, please ask your Hospitality Associate or Tray Passer for a list of alternative menu choices, known as "all-time favorites." You may handwrite any alternative selections directly on your menu.
Your breakfast tray will contain a menu for that day's lunch and dinner and breakfast for the following day. Your Hospitality Associate can assist you in filling out the menu if needed. Patient menus are also available on the nursing units, and patients are encouraged to make menu selections. Upon completion, a Food Service employee will pick up your menu and return it to Food & Nutrition Services to be processed.
Visitors may purchase a "guest tray" to be delivered with the patient's tray. Upon purchase you will receive a patient menu to fill out and the receipt will be attached as proof of payment to ensure your meal is delivered. Visitors may also eat in the cafeteria located on the first floor or buy snacks from the vending machines on the first and second floors. Your Accommodations
Volunteers deliver patient mail Monday through Friday. The hospital receives no mail on weekends or holidays. A mail slot for outgoing mail is located on each floor near the elevators.
