Quality & Safety Spotlight - High Quality

Adventist HealthCare Washington Adventist Hospital Receives Highest Quality Rating for Heart Surgery

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) awarded Adventist HealthCare Washington Adventist Hospital a Three-Star rating – the highest possible quality rating - for coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) and aortic valve replacement surgery (AVR).

The STS analyzes many different national cardiac surgical data categories annually to determine which hospitals meet its stringent qualifications for the Three-Star rating. Its database measures outcomes from more than 90 percent of the 1,100 cardiac surgery programs in the U.S. This data includes compliance with recommended quality measures during surgery, avoidance of mortality, avoidance of major complications, adherence to appropriate medication usage before and after surgery and patient outcomes.

Selecting a Hospital to Receive Care

Quality measures provide a good snapshot of the quality of care that hospitals give; however, a hospital's quality is more than just its scores. You can use this information in addition to discussions with your health care provider and family in choosing a hospital to receive care for your particular condition.
