Award-Winning Stroke Care

Adventist HealthCare has been nationally recognized for its commitment to quality stroke care. Both Shady Grove Medical Center and Washington Adventist Hospital hold designations as Primary Stroke Centers by the Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Services and systems for delivering quality care in stroke programs. In 2015, Washington Adventist Hospital and Shady Grove Medical Center were two of only three hospitals in Maryland to earn both Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus and Gold Plus Quality of Achievement awards from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.

In addition, for rehabilitation following a stroke, Adventist HealthCare Physical Health & Rehabilitation holds accreditation from the Commission on the accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities in four areas including stroke.

Neurological Rehabilitation

Following surgery, a stroke or other neurological condition patients, can seamlessly begin programs and therapies to help restore function and independent living through Adventist HealthCare Physical Health & Rehabilitation (PH&R), which has inpatient locations within Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park and on the campus with Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville.

PH&R provides neuro rehabilitation services in its Silver Spring and Rockville locations. The Neuro Rehabilitation and Balance Center, which is located in PH&R’s Rockville facility, offers the most advanced rehabilitative technologies for neurological conditions or injuries. Within the specialized Center, expert therapists and physicians develop treatment plans using state-of-the-art equipment that includes the Alter-G Anti-Gravity Treadmill, a Multiple Application Suspension System and the Neurocom SMART EquiTest—a gold standard in balance assessment and treatment.

PH&R’s specialized team also includes neuropsychologists, specialized experts that provide evaluation and interventions to manage the emotional, cognitive, behavioral and interpersonal aspects of neurological conditions.

Once neuroscience patients are discharged from Adventist HealthCare’s acute care hospitals or rehabilitation facility, the Adventist HealthCare Home Care team offers a range of in-home services that include nursing care, occupational, physical and speech/language therapy services as well as home support services.

Our Team Approach
