Adventist Behavioral Health Eastern Shore
Adventist Behavioral Health Eastern Shore is the Eastern Shore's only treatment facility specializing in both acute psychiatric care for children and adolescents, and long-term residential services for adolescents.
As with all other Adventist Behavioral Health facilities, the Eastern Shore facility is free of mechanical restraints. Employees are trained in the MANDT system, an evidence-based approach that focuses on relationship building and treating others with dignity and respect in order to correct difficult behavior in youth without the use of restraints.
Advancements in Care
In April 2007, Adventist Behavioral Health Eastern Shore opened a one-of-a-kind program in the state of Maryland for low-functioning adolescents with IQs between 55 and 70. This is the only program in the state to address the special clinical and therapeutic needs of this population.
In July 2009, we opened an intensive substance abuse program for patients with dual diagnosis, with all services provided by a Certified Supervised Counselor-Alcohol and Drug. The program includes four weekly substance abuse therapy groups, four weekly AA/NA meetings, and one individual substance abuse therapy session per week.
Also in 2009, we began a Transitional Youth program, which includes vocational services, workplace readiness skills, career development, personal social skills, and independent living skills, designed for older adolescents and young adults ages 17 to 21.
