Health Equity

Health equity is the state in which everyone has a fair and just opportunity to attain their highest level of health, regardless of factors such as race, ethnicity, age, gender, disability, income, education, or zip code.

Health equity encompasses:

  • Eliminating health disparities - Addressing differences in health outcomes between different groups of people.
  • Promoting access to quality healthcare - Ensuring that everyone has access to affordable, culturally appropriate healthcare services.
  • Addressing social determinants of health - Recognizing and addressing factors outside of the healthcare system that influence health, such as poverty, education, housing, and discrimination.
  • Empowering individuals and communities - Providing resources and support to help people make healthy choices and improve their health.

Achieving and sustaining health equity requires a deliberate and ongoing commitment. This involves:

  1. Actively identifying health disparities across different populations
  2. Delving deep to understand the underlying factors contributing to these inequalities.
  3. Tirelessly collaborating with various stakeholders to dismantle the obstacles faced by our patients and communities.

By adopting this approach, we can work towards a healthcare system that provides fair and just opportunities for everyone to attain their full health potential, regardless of their social, economic, or demographic background.

Our Commitment to Health Equity

At Adventist Health Care (AHC), our mission: "We extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental, and spiritual healing", is also a commitment to safeguarding that equitable care is being delivered. We aim to advance equity in three key areas: provision of care, outcomes, and community partnerships. This approach is designed to empower all patients to achieve their highest health potential, encompassing body, mind, and spirit.
