Cardiac Service at Washington Adventist Receives Re-Accreditation

Takoma Park, MD - A key service of Washington Adventist Hospital's cardiology program has been honored by a national accreditation agency.

The hospital's echocardiography lab received three-year re-accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL). Washington Adventist Hospital was the first non-teaching hospital in Maryland to receive this accreditation more than three years ago.

Echocardiography is a non-invasive, diagnostic imaging test used to detect possible structural defects or blockages in the heart, and the hospital performs nearly 4,000 echocardiography tests annually.

The ICAEL was established with the support of the American College of Cardiology and other professional organizations to recognize and encourage the development of echocardiography programs that provide a high standard of patient care and quality diagnostic testing.

"We value this accreditation as an important means to help ensure we are providing our patients with the highest level of care," said Ken Bauer, President of Washington Adventist Hospital. "I want to thank our physicians and staff for their efforts in helping us obtain this honor."

Located off of University Boulevard in Takoma Park, Washington Adventist Hospital is a regional provider of cardiology care including, open-heart surgery, angioplasty, cardiac research, prevention-oriented programs and cardiac rehabilitation. The hospital also provides an array of other health care services including maternity care, emergency medical care, behavioral health services, inpatient/outpatient surgery, radiation oncology and many other services.
