Adventist Healthcare to Acquire Land to Meet Healthcare Needs in Clarksburg

Adventist HealthCare has signed a contract to acquire land adjacent to I-270 in Clarksburg, Maryland. The organization will work with community leaders and State health officials to determine how this property can best be used to serve the health care needs of the fast growing region that includes upper Montgomery County.

The 200 acres Adventist HealthCare will acquire is located on the west side of I-270 in Montgomery County near the border with Frederick County. Officials from Adventist HealthCare chose this site because it presents the best opportunity to develop future health care services within the Clarksburg Master Plan. Settlement on the property is expected to occur in late February 2002.

Clarksburg is the last planned town center scheduled for development in Montgomery County and population in the community is expected to increase by some 14,000 people over the next 8 years alone.

“The mission of Adventist HealthCare is to ensure that the community we serve has access to necessary health care services. We believe it is important to plan for the future, particularly in light of the growth that is occurring in this region,” said Bill Robertson, President & CEO of Adventist HealthCare. “We will involve the local community in helping us determine how this property can best serve their needs.”

Adventist HealthCare’s financial investment in this property is still being structured and has not been finalized. This acquisition will not impact the services provided at any of the Adventist HealthCare entities, and the development projects for Washington Adventist Hospital, Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and other services will continue.

As part of its commitment to ensure community access to necessary health care services, Adventist HealthCare also recently broke ground on the Germantown Medical Plaza, a two-building project that will include physician offices and outpatient health care services on Route 118 in Germantown, Maryland.
