Shady Grove Receives Positive State Report Following ICU Survey

No Deficiencies Cited for Patient Care

Rockville, MD - Shady Grove Adventist Hospital received no deficiencies related to patient care following a survey of the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU) by Maryland health care officials.

A representative from the State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene surveyed the ICU last month following reports that a nurse may have taken inappropriate action related to the care of a patient or patients. The report, issued to the hospital this week, cites two deficiencies related to documentation.

"This is a very positive report from the State and we are especially pleased that there were no deficiencies related to patient care," said Deborah A. Yancer, President of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. "We value our collaborative relationship with State regulators and their input related to documentation is very helpful. We have clear policies related to documentation and will use this as an opportunity to reinforce these policies."

The State report follows one issued several weeks ago by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations which also surveyed the hospital's ICU last month. The Joint Commission's report cited just one recommendation for improvement unrelated to patient care.

"We appreciate ongoing feedback from all sources, including regulators, patients, family member and others as part of our commitment to provide quality care in service to our community," said Yancer.

Located in Rockville, Maryland, Shady Grove Adventist Hospital has 274 licensed beds and employs approximately 1,800 people. The hospital provides an array of health care services including emergency medicine, pediatrics, neonatal intensive care, maternity and high-risk maternity services, cardiology, orthopedics, oncology and many others.
