Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Launches Women's and Children's Center

Center is a Reflection of Community Need

Rockville, MD - Shady Grove Adventist Hospital has launched the Women's and Children's Center to create an enhanced identity for the array of leading-edge women's and children's health services offered by the hospital.

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital offers a full range of women's and children's services, including a pediatric emergency department, a neonatal intensive care unit, a maternity unit with private labor and delivery rooms, a pediatric same-day surgery unit, expertise in high-risk pregnancies, bedside ultrasounds, comprehensive breast health services, health education classes and home health services. All of these services are coordinated through the Women's and Children's Center.

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital had more than 24,000 visits to its pediatric emergency department, delivered more than 4,500 babies and had more than 3,400 pediatric admissions in 2002.

The hospital is continuously seeking to increase and refine the services it provides to women and children. For example, earlier this year, the pediatric emergency department expanded its hours so that it is now open 24 hours a day. The hospital has implemented sentinel node biopsies to detect the spread of breast cancer, and also has increased the number of private post-partum rooms.

"The creation of the Women's and Children's Center at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is a recognition of the extensive experience and the full spectrum of pediatric and maternity services we provide for our community," said Deborah A. Yancer, President of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. "The name is also a reflection of the growing need in our community for these services."

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is a 263-bed hospital that offers an array of health care services in addition to women's and children's services, including cardiology services, cancer treatment, emergency medical care and surgical services, among others. The hospital employs approximately 1,700 health care professionals and is part of the Adventist HealthCare network of services.
