Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Nurses Give Back to Community as They Celebrate Profession

Rockville, MD - In honor and celebration of Nurses' Week, celebrated by nurses nationwide during the week of May 3-7, the nurses at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital will be conducting a hospital-wide food and clothing drive to benefit Western Upper Montgomery County HELP and the local women's shelter. National Nurses' Week is recognized as May 6-12, ending on the anniversary of Florence Nightengale's birthday.

Shady Grove's Nurse Practice Council, which is the shared governance structure for the hospital's 800+ team of nurses, chose this project in an effort to give back to the community served by the hospital.

"Our nurses care very much about the community we serve. Not only are they our patients, they are also our family members, friends and neighbors. Nurses are called to their profession because they want to help others - this community service is a way our nurses can go beyond the walls of our hospital to help others," said Deborah A. Yancer, President of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.

Western Upper Montgomery County HELP is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to providing quick and friendly emergency assistance to needy residents of Western Upper Montgomery County (Maryland). We provide clients with financial, food and transportation assistance. The emergency help is for critical expenses such as rent, utilities, medicines, and child day care.

Located in Rockville, Maryland, Shady Grove Adventist Hospital has 274 licensed beds and employs approximately 1,800 people. The hospital provides an array of health care services including emergency medicine, pediatrics, neonatal intensive care, maternity and high-risk maternity services, cardiology, orthopedics, oncology and many others. Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is part of Adventist HealthCare, a non-profit network of health care providers that includes hospitals, home health agencies, nursing centers and other health care services.
