Nationally Recognized Experts Provide New Perspectives on Prostate Cancer at Washington Adventist Hospital's 6th Annual Prostate Cancer Symposium

Takoma Park, MD - Washington Adventist Hospital's 6th Prostate Cancer Symposium, New Perspectives on Prostate Cancer 2005, offers a one-day course on recent advances in prostate cancer. Nationally recognized experts will present the latest developments in the multidisciplinary management of prostate cancer and provide a comprehensive overview of the complex and continually evolving issues facing practitioners treating men who are at risk for, or diagnosed with, prostate cancer.

The American Cancer Society estimates that more than 232,000 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2005. The disease is the second leading cause of cancer death in men. African-American men have the highest incidence rates for prostate cancer.

A diagnosis of prostate cancer can pose unexpected dilemmas for patients and doctors. Despite the prevalence of the disease, none of the available treatment options-some of which can cause uncomfortable side effects-- is uniformly viewed as superior for ensuring survival for early-stage patients.

The symposium will highlight cutting-edge prostate cancer research and promising emerging developments in the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of the disease.

For more than 20 years, the Radiation Oncology Department at Washington Adventist Hospital has sponsored a series of annual cancer symposia on the latest issues and advances in clinical cancer research. This year's symposium is the 6th in a series devoted to learning about prostate cancer.
