Shady Grove Adventist Hospital President Accepts New Position as Leader of California Medical System

Deborah A. Yancer, President of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville since 2000, has accepted the Chief Executive Officer position at Enloe Medical Center in Chico, California.  Ms. Yancer will continue in her role at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital through the middle of March and will begin her responsibilities at Enloe in April.

Enloe Medical Center is a non-profit provider of care and encompasses seven separate facilities, including a 391-bed, tertiary hospital. The center also offers services in behavioral health, inpatient rehabilitation, home health and hospice.  Enloe serves more than 400,000 residents in a six-county region in Northern California and employs 2,300 people.

"While I am very excited about the opportunity to provide health-care services to the broader Chico community, I am sad to leave Shady Grove and Adventist HealthCare," Ms. Yancer said.  "It has been my privilege to serve our community alongside an incredible group of people, including the medical staff, leadership, staff and volunteers of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.  The hospital will always hold a special place in my heart."

Bill Robertson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Adventist HealthCare, who recruited Ms. Yancer to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, expressed his appreciation for her leadership over the past seven years.

"Debi has had numerous accomplishments during her time with Adventist HealthCare, including overseeing the opening of Maryland's first freestanding emergency medical facility in Germantown, and leading the planning and design for the new patient tower which opens in November at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital," Mr. Robertson said. "The legacy of her leadership in the county, state, and at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital will live on."

During her tenure as President of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Ms. Yancer led the hospital's 1,800 employees and its medical staff in a new direction, transforming the culture and improving the hospital's performance, resulting in local and national awards for quality of care.

In 2005 Shady Grove Adventist Hospital received the Joint Commission's Ernest Amory Codman Award for excellence in the use of outcome measurements to improve the quality and safety of clinical care.  Shady Grove Adventist Hospital also received the National Work Life Alliance's Best Place to Work award for four consecutive years (2003-2006), and was honored with the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Corporate Achievement Award in 2003.

Among her many personal awards, Ms. Yancer has been recognized as one of the Top 100 Women in Maryland and one of the 100 Most Powerful Women of Washington. She serves as Chair of the Board of Advisors for the Universities of Maryland at Shady Grove, and is a graduate of the Leadership Montgomery and Leadership Maryland community programs.

"Debi has developed an excellent leadership team at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital," said Mr. Robertson. "Shady Grove's community-based Governing Board, the leadership team, the medical staff and the hospital employees remain committed to providing quality medical care and serving our growing community."

Dennis Hansen, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, will serve as the interim President throughout the selection process.
