Consumers Identify Shady Grove Adventist Hospital for Best Overall Quality

Rockville, MD - Local hospital consumers have selected Shady Grove Adventist Hospital as a 2009/2010 Consumer Choice Award winner for best quality and image. Shady Grove Adventist, which is part of the Adventist HealthCare system, was identified by National Research Corporation based on results from a national survey that included consumers in Shady Grove's service area. Only one other local Maryland hospital received the 2009/2010 award.

"At Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, we strive to deliver high-quality care and a remarkable experience for each of our patients," said Shady Grove Adventist Hospital president, Dennis Hansen. "The Consumer Choice Award is an important sign that patients in our community are noticing our commitment to quality and, as a result, selecting our hospital for their health care."

According to the National Research Corporation (NRC), the winners of the Consumer Choice Awards are determined by consumer perceptions on multiple quality and image ratings collected by the company's Healthcare Market Guide Ticker study. This award is based on Best Doctors, Best Nurses, Best Overall Quality, and Best Image/Reputation as reported by consumers in Shady Grove Adventist Hospital's market through the NRC Ticker study.

Of the 3,200 hospitals named by consumers in the Ticker study, the winning facilities, including Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, rank highest in their Core Based Statistical Areas as defined by the US Census Bureau. The NRC study surveyed 250,000 households representing 450,000 consumers in the contiguous 48 states and the District of Columbia. This is the second time that Shady Grove has received this award.

The Consumer Choice Award can be added to a long list of quality awards and recognitions that Shady Grove Adventist Hospital has received over the past year. Other achievements include becoming the first hospital in the Washington, DC region to obtain certification as a level 2 Chest Pain Center, receiving five-year certification as a Primary Stroke Center and obtaining a waiver from the Maryland HealthCare Commission to continue delivering emergency treatments to heart attack patients.

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, a not-for-profit, acute care facility with 320 licensed beds, celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2009. Shady Grove offers a broad range of excellent health services including emergency care; high-risk obstetrical and neonatal care; cardiac and vascular interventional care; oncology care; several surgical specialties; and a number of specialized services for children. The Shady Grove Adventist Emergency Center in Germantown opened in 2006 and is providing increased access to emergency medical care for more than 30,000 residents each year. Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is part of Maryland-based Adventist HealthCare, an integrated health care delivery system that is one of the largest employers in the state of Maryland.
