Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Welcomes Its First Baby of 2011

Baby Girl Born at 12:01 a.m. New Year's Day

Rockville, Md.Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is pleased to announce that its first baby of 2011, a girl weighing 9 lbs. 5 oz., arrived at 12:01 a.m. on January 1. Both mom and baby are resting and doing well.

"We are pleased to welcome this first baby of 2011 at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital’s Birth Center," said Terry Francis, Director of Perinatal Services at Shady Grove Adventist. "Our expert physicians and staff recognize that each birth is an intimate and special experience for a family."

As the first baby born at Shady Grove Adventist in 2011, the New Year’s baby and her parents will receive a special gift from the hospital – a large basket of gifts donated or made by the nurses in the Labor and Delivery and the Mother/Baby Units, including handmade towels, blankets, hats, booties and many other baby essentials.

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital delivered approximately 5,000 babies in 2010.  For babies who need specialized care when they arrive, Shady Grove has a Level IIIB neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The hospital also has the area’s first and only birth advisor – a professional nurse who provides free counseling and birth planning services for parents-to-be.

Note to Editors: Additional information and an update on the family’s availability for interviews will follow later today.
