Washington Adventist Ranks Among Area’s Top 5 Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report

Hospital also Recognized as High Performing in 9 Specialty Areas

Takoma Park, MD – In its annual ranking of the best hospitals in the United States, U.S. News & World Report, a national magazine, ranked Washington Adventist Hospital 5th out of 26 top-ranking hospitals in the Washington D.C. area.

U.S. News & World Report also recognized Washington Adventist Hospital as high performing in the areas of Heart & Heart Surgery, Urology, Pulmonology, Diabetes & Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Ear, Nose & Throat, Geriatrics, Nephrology and Neurology & Neurosurgery.

For the Washington, D.C. area list, hospitals qualified based on their rankings in 16 adult specialties, on specific criteria that include death rates, patient safety, reputation among doctors, technology, nurse staffing and measures of quality care, placement on the national list, as well as stringent benchmarks that include volumes for certain types of cases.

Washington Adventist Hospital has been continually recognized for the quality care it provides to patients with many serious health conditions. Recent recognition includes:

  • Accredited as a Chest Pain Center by The Society of Chest Pain Centers.
  • Designated as a Cardiac Interventional Center by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services and Systems (MIEMSS).
  • Designated as a Primary Stroke Center by MIEMSS.

Washington Adventist Hospital also has an accredited Cancer Program and provides a range of health services to the community such as surgical services, orthopedics, maternity services and emergency services. 

Washington Adventist Hospital is a 281-bed acute-care facility located in Takoma Park, Maryland. Washington Adventist Hospital is Montgomery County’s first cardiac center, performing on average more than 500 open-heart surgeries and more than 6,000 heart catheterizations each year. The Hospital is the first accredited Cycle III Chest Pain Center in the DC Metro Area. Washington Adventist Hospital is part of Adventist HealthCare, an integrated health-care delivery system based in Rockville, Maryland, that is one of the largest employers in the state of Maryland.
