Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Appoints New Member to Governing Board

Rockville, Md. – Brian Edwards has been appointed to the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Governing Board for a two-year term that began on January 1, 2012. Edwards will also serve on the Nominating Subcommittee of the hospital board.

“I am pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Edwards to the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Governing Board,” said William G. Robertson, Chair of the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Governing Board. “We are honored to be working with him and are excited about the knowledge and expertise in education and media relations that he brings to the board.”

Edwards is currently the Chief of Staff for Montgomery County Public Schools where he oversees communications strategy and has helped to lead one of the nation’s most successful education reforms. Prior to this position, Edwards was the Director of Public Information for Montgomery County Public Schools.

“I am confident that as a member of our governing board for the next two years, Edwards will help Shady Grove Adventist Hospital continue to fulfill its mission of providing high-quality care to the members of our community,” said Dennis Hansen, president of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital.

Before his work with Montgomery County Public Schools, Edwards served as Vice President of Public Affairs for the market research company, Potomac Incorporated. In addition, he spent four years working as a press secretary for United States Congressman Jim Davis, in the United States House of Representatives. Edwards also spent several years as a reporter in Tampa, Florida, covering such stories as the Cuban refugee crisis, as well as NASA and the Space Shuttle Program.

“It is an honor to be a member of the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Governing Board,” stated Edwards. “In this role, I am looking forward to supporting the hospital so that we can continue to care for the growing population in Montgomery County.”

Edwards holds a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and Psychology from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. He also completed a Public Education Leadership Program at the Continuing Education and Professional Development Harvard Business School and Graduate School of Education in Cambridge, Mass.
