Shady Grove Adventist Hospital Names Medical Director for Vascular Research

Director Leads Hospital Team in Research Studies

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital has named Jeffrey Wang, M.D., as the Medical Director for Vascular Research.

Rockville, MD – Shady Grove Adventist Hospital has named Jeffrey Wang, M.D., as the Medical Director for Vascular Research. In this role, Dr. Wang will oversee and coordinate the development of vascular research studies. He will also identify, evaluate and explore new and advanced vascular techniques for the hospital.

“We are pleased to have Dr. Wang lead the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital vascular team in research,” said Dennis Hansen, President of the hospital. “We are confident that his experience and unique expertise will help us continue to offer the latest in high-quality vascular care to our community.”

Currently, Dr. Wang is overseeing several research studies including studies on both high risk and standard risk patients who need an artery to their brain reopened in order to reduce stroke risk. He is also working on research examining the removal of blood clots and its effect on a patient’s quality of life.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as the Medical Director for Vascular Research at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital,” said Dr. Wang. “As medical director, I am looking forward to expanding our participation in research studies so that we can continue to offer the best outcomes for our patients.”

Prior to this position, Dr. Wang created the hospital’s Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE) databases. DVT is a condition in which a blood clot is formed in a vein that is deep within the body. A PE is a blockage that is formed when a blood clot travels to the lungs. The DVT and PE databases track patients’ outcomes and the results will be used in the future to help guide changes in vascular practices. Currently, Dr. Wang performs procedures for DVT and PE patients at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital that only a few other hospitals and vascular surgeons in the state of Maryland can offer.

Upcoming studies at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital will further examine procedures for patients needing complex endovascular revascularization as well as studies on the use of various devices in vascular practices.

Shady Grove Adventist Hospital’s Vascular Ultrasound Laboratory is fully accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR) and accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL) for its noninvasive vascular testing in the areas of carotid ultrasound and venous ultrasound. Shady Grove Adventist Hospital is designated a Primary Stroke Care Center by the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) and recently received the American Heart Association’s Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award for its stroke care.
