Shady Grove Radiology Joins Adventist HealthCare

Six-location imaging practice integrates into Montgomery County’s first and largest health system

Gaithersburg, MDAdventist HealthCare today announced that Shady Grove Radiology has joined its integrated healthcare delivery system. The six Shady Grove Radiology imaging centers have become Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Radiology and are now part of the Gaithersburg-based healthcare system, which is the first and largest in Montgomery County.

“Earlier this year we began looking for ways to further solidify and deepen the long-standing relationship between Adventist HealthCare and Shady Grove Radiology,” said Amy Carrier, Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Planning for Adventist HealthCare. “We believe this integration will help us expand the breadth and depth of coordinated, comprehensive services we can deliver to the community.”

Shady Grove Radiology’s 40-year history of providing excellent imaging and radiology services includes a close relationship with Adventist HealthCare, which operates Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville and Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, along with rehabilitation, home care, mental health and other facilities throughout the region.

“Our organizations very much share a vision for the future and aligned missions with a focus on providing excellent care to the community,” said Larry Busching, Chief Operating Officer of Shady Grove Radiology. “We are pleased to formally become part of Adventist HealthCare and see this change as an opportunity to expand the services we offer in the future.”

Recent changes in healthcare at a national and state level that focus on population health management have increased the importance of expanding outpatient services in order to allow patients to more easily access services and information. The addition of the six Shady Grove Radiology locations to Adventist HealthCare is one example of this focus for the 107-year old health system. Another is Adventist’s expansion into urgent care launched earlier this year with the opening of the first Centra Care Adventist HealthCare Urgent Care location in Rockville. Locations in Germantown and Laurel will open in late 2015 or early 2016.

Increasingly, imaging services provide important diagnosis and treatment options for many health conditions. With the addition of technology to more easily share imaging results among physicians and facilities, access to imaging services is a critical piece in the delivery of quality healthcare.

“Shady Grove Radiology becoming part of Adventist HealthCare more deeply integrates the two organizations, creating added efficiencies, coordination and depth of subspecialty expertise across the system – a win for patients and physicians,” said Dr. Jeffrey Rich, president of Shady Grove Radiology.

The integration expands the Shady Grove Radiology physician group by seven physicians and adds subspecialty expertise in body imaging, neuroradiology, muskuloskeletal, interventional radiology and breast imaging. These physicians are now part of the Adventist HealthCare Adventist Medical Group, which is an affiliate of the GW Medical Faculty Associates.

“We believe that bringing Shady Grove Radiology into our health system provides an important way for us to best position Adventist HealthCare to embrace changes taking place in healthcare delivery,” said Terry Forde, President and CEO of Adventist HealthCare. “This alignment also helps further our mission of improving the health of our communities.”

Adventist HealthCare, the first and largest healthcare system in Montgomery County, offers a full range of health and wellness services to the community including acute hospital care, rehabilitation, mental and behavioral health services, home care, health education, a physician network and wellness services for businesses. Our mission is to demonstrate God’s care by improving the health of people and communities through a ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing.
