Our goal is to make this a seamless transition and to ensure you receive the same expert care you experienced prior to Shady Grove Orthopaedics joining Adventist HealthCare. The medical record system, billing and patient portal have been updated.
Beginning October 3, 2026 you can expect the following changes:
Billing Statements - Adventist HealthCare will issue billing statements for services provided on or after October 3, 2026. You may receive a notice from your insurance company related to the transfer of billing information to Adventist HealthCare. This administrative change is not expected to interrupt your insurance coverage. For services provided before October 3, 2026, you will continue to receive statements from the previous billing entity until any outstanding balance is paid in full.
Patient Portal - Your patient portal will transition to Adventist HealthCare’s secure electronic health record system. You do not need to take any action at this time. We will soon provide information about accessing the new portal, where you will be able to view portions of your health record, request prescription refills, track test results, and send secure messages to your care team.
Medical Records - OrthoBethesda will remain the custodian of records for services provided before October 3, 2026. To request a copy of these records, please submit your request through OrthoBethesda’s medical records partner, HealthMark. After logging in, select “Submit Request” and complete the required fields to provide authorization directly to HealthMark. Once your request has been processed, you will receive a notification by email or mail with information about accessing your records.
For records requests after October 3, please visit our Medical Records page.
Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Orthopaedics accepts most insurance plans. Please contact your insurance company before your appointment to confirm network participation, coverage, referral requirements and copay information.

You may schedule an appointment without a referral. However, some insurance plans require a referral before your visit. Check with your insurance company to understand your plan's requirements.
Consider scheduling an evaluation if bone, joint, muscle or tendon pain is not improving, limits your movement or affects your daily activities. An orthopedic specialist can evaluate the problem and discuss an appropriate next step.
Bring a photo ID, your current insurance card, a payment method and a referral if your insurance plan requires one. If available, also bring relevant medical records, imaging, a list of medications and the questions you want to discuss.
We also suggest that you dress comfortably for your visit, wearing loose clothing that is easy to take off and put on.
Yes. For your convenience and to optimize your care and treatment plan, we offer on-site physical therapy services at both our Germantown and Rockville office locations.
