About Fort Washington Medical Center

Growing from a humbled small hospital off Livingston Road and Indian Head Highway, this family-oriented hospital became part of Adventist HealthCare in 2019 - and today, Fort Washington Medical Center is reimagining healthcare in southwestern Prince George’s County. Adventist HealthCare is in a unique position to respond to the chronic healthcare challenges that affect parts of the county and southeast Washington, DC. The Fort Washington Medical Center team is committed to creating more convenient healthcare experiences in the communities it serves that are lacking comprehensive and compassionate world-class care.

Expansion & Growth

Since joining Adventist HealthCare, Fort Washington Medical Center has grown significantly. In 2020, the Adventist Medical Group Primary Care location opened, bringing essential prevention and wellness services to the community. In 2021, the hospital completed renovations to the lobby and entrance of the hospital with the goal of ensuring patients enter a welcoming environment to receive care. Substantial upgrades to the hospital’s existing campus, IT infrastructure and medical equipment modernized and equipped the facility with state-of-the-art care.

What’s Next?

The future is bright as Adventist HealthCare looks to expand its footprint and build a new hospital for southern Prince George’s County. A new Fort Washington Medical Center will provide a breadth of improvements for patients to heal and physicians to provide world-class care.

Why is a New Hospital Vital to the Community?

The hospital serves a growing and diverse community and, historically, one of the most medically underserved areas in the state. The condition of the current facility results in many nearby residents seeking care elsewhere – often traveling long distances and crossing into neighboring jurisdictions of Virginia and DC. Seeking care outside of the FWMC service area is inconvenient for patients and can increase healthcare costs.

Did You Know?

Per 100,000 people, Prince George’s County has significantly fewer hospital-based services, primary care physicians, medical specialists, and surgical specialists when compared to Montgomery County and other similarly sized jurisdictions. This disparity led to some of the highest COVID-19 infection and death rates in the state.

Building a new Fort Washington Medical Center means providing patients with the exceptional care experience they expect and deserve, just like their neighbors in Montgomery County, Virginia and D.C.
