About Steven Boyce
Steven W. Boyce, MD, is an internationally-renowned cardiothoracic surgeon and one of the most experienced in the country, having performed over 11,500 major cardiac operations.
Dr. Boyce received his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins, his medical degree from the University of Maryland, and completed his internship and residency in surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He completed his chief residency in cardiothoracic surgery and fellowship in cardiac transplantation at UCLA. Following a faculty appointment at Harvard Medical School, he moved to Washington, DC.
Dr. Boyce has been instrumental in the development of the field of mechanical circulatory assist devices, in particular, mini left ventricular assist devices, also known as LVADs. He has been an investigator in more than 85 clinical trials, including HeartWare’s ADVANCE and ENDURANCE trial. He has authored over 120 peer-reviewed papers. He is also the Founder of MyLVAD.com. For many years, Dr. Boyce has been named one of the “Best Doctors in America,” “America’s Top Surgeons” and a Washingtonian "Top Doctor."
After a distinguished nearly 3-decade career at MedStar Washington Hospital Center as the Surgical Director of the Advanced Heart Failure, Transplant, and LVAD Programs, Dr. Boyce has joined Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center. His philosophy of care focuses on patient clinical outcomes and their spiritual well-being.
