About Vijay Varma
Vijay Varma, MD, is the director of the Thyroid Center for Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center and is a thyroid endocrinologist with Adventist Medical Group. During his 50-year career, Dr. Varma has established numerous procedures for diagnosing and managing various oncological conditions. He started his career serving the United States Navy as the director of nuclear medicine at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. Since then, he practiced with several other healthcare providers in the Washington D.C. area. He also worked at George Washington University Hospital for 29 years before retiring as Emeritus Professor. Dr. Varma's mission is to improve his patient's quality of life physically and spiritually by providing excellent, compassionate care.
Dr. Varma earned his medical degree in internal medicine from Osmania University and earned his doctorate degree in endocrinology with an emphasis in pathophysiology from the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences. He completed his internal medicine/nuclear medicine fellowship from The University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. Dr. Varma has been published extensively, led numerous presentations and has received awards from the American College of Nuclear Physicians, the American College of Radiology, the American College of Nuclear Medicine and the Indo-American Society of Nuclear Medicine. Dr. Varma's current clinical interests include the investigative and therapeutic management of all thyroid problems, especially hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer.
