A Future with Hope!

As the date approaches of the ribbon-cutting to open the new Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center, and as we review the myriad of details to be addressed before the event, I find myself thinking about all that has been accomplished to bring us to this point. And I remember this text from the Bible: “For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope” (Jeremiah 29:11, NRSV).

I love those words: “a future with hope.” How fortunate we are to be led and blessed by divine love and grace in this endeavor!

The legacy of care in Adventist HealthCare stretches back more than 100 years. It is rooted in compassion, devoted to clinical excellence, and wholly focused on fulfilling our mission within the communities we serve. It is confidence in God’s leading that has brought us to this point as an organization, and that energizes our future.

We approach our mission to “extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing” with single-minded devotion. Our conviction is that through our work we may create exceptional environments that provide hope and healing for our patients and their families.

Jesus said, “I am among you as one who serves” (Luke 22:27, NIV). As a faith-based organization, we acknowledge the presence of the Divine. We believe that people may see God at work in our hospitals. Our greatest desire is that our patients will experience healing in every sense of the word. We want to make real “a future with hope.”

On Thursday, in a special blessing and dedication service, we reaffirmed these values, and with gratitude and reference prayed for God to be ever-present in our new hospital. With thankful hearts, our leadership team recommitted ourselves to this ministry and important calling.

In this, we are called to be God’s hands and feet. We seek to discover the healing grace of God in every encounter we have with our patients.

As we open the White Oak Medical Center, and as the goal we have worked towards for so many years becomes a reality, my continued prayer is for God’s blessing and guidance. May we be ever mindful of the sacred opportunities we have to embody “a future with hope.”
