AHC Core Values: Respect
The word Adventist in our name is a reminder that we are closely associated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, our sponsoring organization. The Adventist Church is a faith community that is deeply committed to serving and making a difference in the lives of people and valuing community partnerships with people from a diversity of beliefs and traditions.
That partnership springs in part from a shared understanding that God is a loving God we can know personally—a divine presence in our world and in our lives with whom we can form a relationship through scripture, through a life of devotion, and through connection with others.
Accordingly, at Adventist HealthCare we believe that every act, word or deed can be an opportunity to extend the amazing grace of God. Demonstrating respect is a tangible expression of that belief and the beliefs expressed in the faith of our sponsoring organization. As a result, the Adventist HealthCare Value of Respect—We recognize the infinite worth of each individual—is closely aligned with our Vision to provide a world-class patient experience to every person, every time.
Respect begins when we really listen to those with whom we interact and seek to establish a connection of mutual consideration and appreciation. When we try to understand another’s point of view, when we are encouraging, when we communicate with transparency, and when we express appreciation – all of these are ways in which the value of respect is expressed.
Respect can be seen in how we value the life experiences of every team member by being open to new ideas and insights. Respect can also be seen in how we extend and affirm trustworthiness in managing responsibilities. Respect is what motivates an engaged and active interest in the health and total well-being of each member of our team – both on the job and in our lives away from the workplace. Respect is at the core of our Mission and is fundamental to our success.
One of the Scriptures I grew up hearing says, “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves” (Romans 12:10, NIV). That is a powerful call to respect each person as infinitely valuable. And it is something we do at Adventist HealthCare every single day.
