My background is in occupational therapy with experience in acute care and inpatient rehabilitation settings. My career with Adventist HealthCare began in 2019 when I was hired as an occupational therapist for inpatient rehabilitation, formerly located in Takoma Park, which later transitioned to White Oak. I served as a co-lead for the Stroke Specialty Program and a facilitator for the Brain Injury Support Group along with various other leadership and mentorship roles. Through these roles, I found a passion in impacting the care provided from the project management and process improvement side, which led me to my current role as Patient Experience Business Partner.
In our RISES values, I place significant value on integrity because I believe it builds trust, ensures patient safety, and upholds ethical standards. In healthcare, we handle sensitive patient information, make critical decisions that impact lives, and are responsible for providing high-quality care. When integrity is maintained, it fosters a culture of honesty, accountability, and transparency, which enhances patient confidence in our ability to provide world-class care.
As an OT, patient experience has always been at the heart of what I do; ensuring every individual felt heard, valued, and empowered in their care has always been a priority. Adventist HealthCare recognized these values and provided opportunities for me to expand my impact, ultimately supporting my transition into the role of Patient Experience Business Partner. Through mentorship, leadership development, and a culture that prioritizes compassionate care, Adventist helped me turn patient experience from an influential aspect of my day-to-day priorities into my profession, allowing me to dedicate time and attention to this important pillar of our organization and influence patient care on a broader scale.
My favorite part is getting to collaborate with team members across the Inpatient, Outpatient, Home Health, and Home Assistance service lines, many of whom I did not have the opportunity to interact with in my previous role. It has been enlightening to gather insight into the inner workings of various departments and how each plays an integral role in the care provided by Adventist HealthCare.
I think it is important for people to know how impactful their role is in a patient’s recovery journey, no matter their position. In my role as Patient Experience Business Partner, I have gained increased perspective on how every team member—from clinical staff to support services—play a vital part in creating a positive patient experience. It’s more than just a job; it’s about making a real difference in people’s lives during a challenging time. Understanding this from day one helps foster a sense of purpose and teamwork that makes Adventist HealthCare stand out amongst the rest.
